CAN/ULC-S1001 Integrated

System Testing

We provide comprehensive CAN/ULC-S1001 Integrated System Testing to ensure that interconnected fire protection and life safety systems function together as intended. Our integrated system testing coordinator services help ensure that building systems meet the requirements set in CAN/ULC-S1001, building and fire codes, relevant standards, and the design narrative for your project’s building permit submission and occupancy.

Retrofit CAN/ULC-S1001

Integrated System Testing

The updated Ontario Fire Code, consolidated as of June 4, 2025, mandates that all buildings occupied on or after January 1, 2020, undergo retroactive integrated testing in accordance with CAN/ULC-S1001, with a compliance deadline of January 1, 2026. Our Integrated Testing Coordinators are available to assist in meeting this regulatory requirement, ensuring that building owners maintain full compliance with the Ontario Fire Code.

CAN/ULC-S1001 Integrated

System Testing for

Modified Systems

When fire protection or life safety systems are modified, we perform targeted S1001 testing to verify that changes remain fully compliant with CAN/ULC-S1001. This includes partial upgrades, expansions, or component replacements, ensuring that integrated system operation is maintained and aligned with applicable code and standard requirements.

Fire, Life Safety, and Accessibility

Review of Design Drawings

We conduct detailed reviews of Architectural, Mechanical, Electrical, and Interior Design drawings to ensure compliance with fire safety, accessibility, and life safety standards, in accordance with the Ontario Building Code Parts 3, 9, 10, and 11. Our assessments verify that key design elements align with applicable code requirements and support safe, functional building operations.

Building Code Compliance

Report Preparation

We generate clear and detailed reports to demonstrate your building's compliance strategies with Part 3, Part 9, Part 10, and Part 11 of the Ontario Building Code. Our reports address building classification, construction requirements, egress provisions, and spatial separation calculations, providing complete documentation suitable for submission to the local building department.

Security Reviews

An often overlooked consideration in building design is how security configurations can impact exiting and egress requirements under the Ontario Building Code. We evaluate building security features, entry and exit control, and life safety considerations to provide balanced recommendations that enhance safety while maintaining full compliance with exiting and egress requirements under the Ontario Building Code.

Phased Occupancy Review

For projects requiring phased occupancy, we assess life safety provisions, fire protection system readiness, and code compliance to support safe and approved occupancy stages.

Fire Code Audits & Life Cycle

Replacement Cost Analysis

We conduct detailed Fire Code audits to identify deficiencies and provide actionable recommendations. We also perform life cycle replacement cost analyses for fire protection systems to assist owners in long-term budgeting and capital planning.

Fire Safety Plan Preparation

Our Fire Safety Plan preparation services include the creation of tailored fire safety strategies specific to your building’s configuration, active and passive fire protection systems, and staff resources, in accordance with the National or Ontario Fire Code.

Evacuation Diagram Preparation

We prepare clear, code-informed evacuation diagrams that illustrate primary and secondary egress routes, fire safety equipment locations, and emergency procedures. These diagrams are tailored to the building’s layout and operational needs, supporting occupant safety and meeting fire code expectations.

Fire Alarm Sequence of Operation

Review and Preparation

We review and prepare detailed Fire Alarm Sequences of Operation to ensure alignment with design intent, industry standards, and applicable Building and Fire Code requirements. Our services verify that fire alarm system functions—including detection, notification, supervisory signals, automatic device activation, and integration with other life safety systems—are clearly defined and accurately documented to support permitting, installation, commissioning, and ongoing maintenance.

Sprinkler, Standpipe, and

Fire Pump Design Services

Through our trusted licensed partner, we offer design services for sprinkler systems, standpipe systems, and fire pumps. These services ensure that all fire protection system designs meet applicable Building and Fire Code requirements, relevant NFPA and ULC standards, and project-specific performance criteria.

Smoke Control Testing and Maintenance Procedure Preparation

We prepare detailed smoke control testing and maintenance procedures to support ongoing compliance with Building and Fire Code requirements. Our services include developing system-specific testing protocols, maintenance schedules, and operational guidelines for stair pressurization systems, smoke exhaust systems, fire dampers, and other smoke control components. These procedures help ensure that smoke control systems remain reliable, effective, and ready to perform as intended throughout the life of the building.
